24 things I’ve learnt in 24 years

I’m getting older! With my birthday coming up on Sunday, I thought I’d reflect on the years gone by and the many things I’ve learnt. I am very aware there are many things I still need to learn and many things I only discovered this year which is highly embarrassing. But for now, I am unbelievably happy and wouldn’t change a thing.

  1. If you’ve dyed you’re hair black, don’t then proceed to try to bleach it blonde yourself. It does not look good and will kill your once gorgeous locks.
  2. Camilla is not a flavour of ice cream. It was simply an inability to say vanilla and then some confusion along the way. Could not believe how old I was when I worked this out.
  3. It’s ok to disagree with other people’s opinions, but it is important to make sure you can back up your argument as to why with facts.
  4. Only let professionals touch your eyebrows. How I wish someone had told me this years ago.
  5. Knowing all the lyrics to songs can be invaluable in a pub quiz. Keep on singing.
  6. Anything you do to help the environment is worth it, however small you might think it is.
  7. You’ll need savings at some point in your life and a credit card if you want any form of credit score. Just make sure you pay it off straight away.
  8. Wine is delicious.
  9. Investing in furniture is so worth it. If you ever come to my flat, you will see why buying an Argos wardrobe is a terrible idea.
  10. You don’t always have to do something because it’s the norm. Not going to university was one of the best decisions I ever made.
  11. It takes a little while and quite a bit of money to build up that kitchen pantry.
  12. I love to host. Having friends over to the flat is one of my favourite things in the world. It’s something that’s important to me when looking for places to live.
  13. I don’t think I’ll ever truly feel like an adult. I’m pretty sure I’m just pretending, but you can’t tell right?
  14. Forgive. Don’t hold onto grudges for too long. It’s not worth it and you’ll probably end up regretting it.
  15. I need someone to shout instructions at me when I exercise. I have zero motivation when it comes to being healthy and fit.
  16. Moisturising every day is essential for great skin.
  17. Having a dishwasher is a luxury. If you have one I am so jealous. I don’t think I’ve ever caught up on the washing up since I left home 6 years ago.
  18. Scented candles are the best. They make me feel like I’m doing a top job as a housewife.
  19. Read what you want. Reading the books I want to read makes me happy. Just because everyone else says it’s a must-read, doesn’t mean I’ll enjoy it.
  20. When he finally pops the question you realise how unimportant the ring and all the wedding details are. All that’s important is you as a couple.
  21. I’m socially awkward all the time, whether it’s in person, over the phone or texting. Honestly, it’s a miracle I have any friends at all.
  22. Support local businesses. Big companies don’t need any more support and it makes me feel amazing knowing I’m keeping someone’s dream stay alive.
  23. No matter how hard you try, you’ll always end up with too many mugs.
  24. I am incredibly lucky to lead the life I do.
